  第二部分 阅读理解 (共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

  A

Next time a customer comes to your office, offer him a cup of coffee. And when you're doing your holiday shopping online, make sure you're holding a large glass of iced tea.The physical sensation (感觉) of warmth encourages emotional warmth, while a cold drink in hand prevents you from making unwise decisions — those are the practical lesson being drawn from recent research by psychologist John A.Bargh.

Psychologists have known that one person's perception (感知) of another's “warmth” is a powerful determiner in social relationships. Judging someone to be either “warm” or “cold” is a primary consideration, even trumping evidence that a “cold” person may be more capable. Much of this is rooted in very early childhood experiences, Bargh argues, when babies' conceptual sense of the world around them is shaped by physical sensations, particularly warmth and coldness.Classic studics by Harry Harlow, published in 1958, showed monkeys preferred to stay close to a cloth “mother” rather than one made of wire, even when the wire “mother” carried a food bottle. Harlow's work and later studies have led psychologists to stress the need for warm physical contact from caregivers to help young children grow into healthy adults with normal social skills.

Feelings of “warmth” and “coldness” in social judgments appear to be universal.Although no worldwide study has been done, Bargh says that describing people as “warm”, or “cold” is common to many cultures, and studies have found those perceptions influence judgment in dozens of countries.

To test the relationship between physical and psychological warmth, Bargh conducted an experiment which involved 41 college students. A research assistant who was unaware of the study's hypotheses (假设),handed the students either a hot cup of coffee, or a cold drink, to hold while the researcher filled out a short information form. The drink was then handed back. After that, the students were asked to rate the personality of“Person A”based on a particular description. Those who had briefly held the warm drink regarded Person A as warmer than those who had held the iced drink.

“We are grounded in our physical experiences even when we think abstractly,” says Bargh.

  【语篇解读】 最近的心理学研究发现,人们对“温暖”或者“寒冷”的感受可以改变人们的情感。

36.According to Paragraph 1, a person's emotion may be affected by________.

  A.the visitors to his office

  B.the psychology lessons he has

  C.his physical feeling of coldness

D.the things he has bought online

  解析 细节理解题。由文章第一段的第三句话可知,温暖的感觉激发温暖的情感,而冷饮在手则会阻止你做出不明智的决定,因此可以说一个人的情感可能会受到冷的感觉的影响。

  答案 B

37.The author mentions Harlow' s experiment to show that________.

  A.adults should develop social skills

  B.babies need warm physical contact

  C.caregivers should be healthy adults

  D.monkeys have social relationships

  答案 B

38.In Bargh' s experiment, the students were asked to________.

  A.evaluate someone's personality

  B.write down their hypotheses

C.fill out a personal information form

D.hold coffee and cold drink alternatively

A.abstract thinking does not come from physical experiences

B.feelings of warmth and coldness are studied worldwide

C.physical temperature affects how we see others

D.capable persons are often cold to others

  解析 推理判断题。全文都在论述人们对“温暖”或“寒冷”的感觉可以影响人们对事物的评价。因此,物理温度会影响我们看待他人的方式。因此选C。

  答案 C

  B

Children start out as natural scientists, eager to look into the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy; there's no need for a lot of scientific terms or expensive lab equipment. You only have to share your children's curiosity(好奇). Firstly, listen to their questions. I once visited a classroom of sevenyearolds to talk about science as a job.The children asked me “textbook questions” about schooling, salary(薪水) and whether I liked my job. When I finished answering, we sat facing one another in silence. Finally I said, “Now that we're finished with your lists,_do you have questions of your own about science?”

After a long pause, a boy raised his hand, “Have you ever seen a grasshopper(蚱蜢) eat? When I try eating leaves like that, I get a stomachache. Why?”

This began a set of questions that lasted nearly two hours.

Secondly, give them time to think. Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, adults typically wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. When adults increase their “wait time” to three seconds or more, children give more logical(符合逻辑的), complete and creative answers.

Thirdly, watch your language. Once you have a child involved in a science discussion, don't jump in with “That's right” or “Very good”. These words work well when it comes to encouraging good behavior(行为). But in talking about science, quick praise can signal that discussion is over. Instead, keep things going by saying “That's interesting” or “I'd never thought of it that way before”, or coming up with more questions or ideas.

Never push a child to “Think”. It doesn't make sense, children are always thinking, without your telling them to. What's more, this can turn a conversation into a performance. The child will try to find the answer you want, in as few words as possible, so that he will be a smaller target(目标) for your disagreement.

Lastly, show; don't tell. Reallife impressions of nature are far more impressive than any lesson children can learn from a book or a television program. Let children look at their fingertips through a magnifying glass(放大镜), and they'll understand why you want them to wash before dinner. Rather than saying that water evaporates(蒸发), set a pot of water to boil and let them watch the water level drop.

  【语篇解读】 本文阐述了如何激发孩子们对科学的兴趣,以引导孩子们学科学。

  40. According to the passage, children are natural scientists, and to raise their interest, the most important thing for adults to do is________.

Bringing up children is hard work, and you are often to blame for any bad behavior of your children. If so, Judith Rich Hams has good news for you. Parents, she argues, have no important longterm effects on the development of the personality of their children. Far more important are their playground friends and neighborhood companions. Ms Harris takes to bits the assumption which has dominated (支配) developmental psychology for almost half a century.

Ms Harris' attack on the developmentalists “nurture” argument looks likely to reinforce (加强) doubts that the profession was already having. If parents matter, why is it that two adopted children, reared in the same home, are no more similar in personality than two adopted children reared in separate homes? Or that a pair of identical twins, reared in the same home, are no more alike than a pair of identical twins reared in different homes?

Difficult as it is to track the precise effects of parental upbringing, it may be harder to measure the exact influence of the peer (同龄人) group in childhood and adolescence. Ms Harris points to how children from immigrant homes soon learn not to speak at school in the way their parents speak. But acquiring a language is surely a skill, rather than a characteristic of the sort developmental psychologists hunt for. Certainly it is different from growing up tensely or relaxedly, or from learning to be honest or hard-working or generous. Easy though it may be to prove that parents have little impact on those qualities, it will be hard to prove that peers have vastly more.

Moreover, mum and dad surely cannot be ditched completely. Young adults may, as Ms Harris argues, be keen to appear like their contemporaries. But even in those early years, parents have the power to open doors: they may initially choose the peers with whom their young associate, and pick that influential neighborhood. Moreover, most people suspect that they come to resemble their parents more in middle age, and people's child-rearing habits may be formed partly by what their parents did. So the balance of influences is probably complicated, as most parents already suspected without being able to demonstrate it scientifically. Even if it turns out that the genes they pass on and the friends their children play with matter as much as affection, discipline and good example, parents are not completely off the hook.

  【语篇解读】 “子不教,父之过”,这一传统的观点受到人们的挑战与质疑。

  Ms Harris研究发现,子女性格的养成,更多地受到他们周围的朋友和邻居的影响。

  44.According to Ms Harris,________.

A.parents are to blame for any bad behavior of their children

It was only a few weeks after my operation, and I went to Dr.Belt's office for a checkup. I still had terrible pain from the scar. As usual, I was taken to an examination room to have my blood drawn, again—a terrifying process for me, since I'm so frightened of needles.

I lay down on the examining table. Ramona entered the room. Her warm sparkling smile was familiar, and stood out in contrast to my fears. I'd first seen her in the office a few weeks earlier. She wasn't my nurse on that day, but I remember her because she was laughing. She laughed in deep, round and rich tones. I remember wondering what could be so funny behind that medical door. What could she possibly find to laugh about at a time like this? So I decided she wasn't serious enough about the whole thing and that I would try to find a nurse who was. But I was wrong.

This day was different. Ramona had taken my blood before. She knew about my fear of needles, and she kindly hid them under a magazine with a bright blue picture. As we opened the blouse, the fresh scar on my chest could be seen.

She said, “How is your scar healing?” I said, “I think pretty well. I wash around it gently each day.” The memory of the shower water hitting my numb chest flashed across my face.

She gently reached over and ran her hand across the scar, examining the smoothness of the healing skin and looking for any irregularities. I began to cry gently and quietly. She brought her warm eyes to mine and said, “You haven't touched it yet, have you?” And I said, “No.”

So this wonderful, warm woman put her hand on my pale chest and she gently held it there. Then in soft tones she said, “This is part of your body. This is you. It's okay to touch it.” But I couldn't. So she touched it for me. The scar. The healing wound. And beneath it, she touched my heart.

That night as I lay down to sleep, I gently placed my hand on my chest and I left it there until I fell asleep. I knew I wasn't alone.

The ongoing rise in housing prices in 70 large and mediumsized Chinese cities indicates we are yet to find effective policies for reining in runaway housing prices.

Prices rose by an average of 5.3 percent yearonyear in April, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

Although this rate may not seem overly high,it is part of a strong and continued rises in housing prices over the past months. What is alarming is that in some big cities, such as Beijing,Shenzhen and Nanjing, the monthly growth was as high as 10 percent.

Beijing, with a yearonyear growth rate of 10.7 percent, has been leading the nation since last June with price increases hovering around 10 percent.

The government, prompted by the worried public, has taken a series of measures since the market started warming up four or five years ago.

Admittedly, there are sound reasons for the continued strong price rise.

The soaring demand is a result of the country's scrapping its traditional national housing program, which has driven people to the commercial market, and growing urbanization, which has seen millions of people move to cities. And with a booming economy and few investment options, housing continues to attract investment.

There are obvious signs of speculation in the market.

A large number of investors are believed to be hoarding housing to profit from future price increases. They have distorted market supply and demand to push up prices.

The failure to devise proper policies to control speculation is one of the crucial factors behind the everrising prices.

The government,in the long run,can stabilize the property market through balancing regional development. It can pert demand to other cities around regional centers.

In the short term, the speculative bubbles must be deflated so that supply and demand can reflect reality.

The Shanghai authorities reportedly decided over the weekend to levy a 20 percent tax on the sale of previously owned homes.Although the local tax authorities did not verify the news,it triggered an earthquake in the local market.People are rushing to sell their houses before tax measures are put in place.

Policy makers need to closely monitor the market reaction and study the pros and cons of a tax on the sale of previouslyowned housing as a way to stabilize the redhot market.

52.As for the yearonyear growth rate of housing prices, which city takes the lead?

  A.Shanghai. B.Beijing.

  C.Shenzhen. D.Nanjing.

  解析 由文中第四段可知。

  答案 B

53.The underlined word in the passage can be replaced by ________.

In the picture,I can see a bird sitting on a nest built on a tree. What interests me most is that the tree is not a real one but a picture, which makes me very sad.

I think the picture wants to show us that the problem of environment is very urgent. With population increasing rapidly, more and more forests have been destroyed and fewer and fewer trees are left.If we don't pay much attention to this situation, maybe in the near future, there would be no trees left and the story in the picture would become true.So it's high time for us human beings to take action to protect the environment.

  Dear_boys_and_girls,

It's_my_great_honour_to_make_a_speech_here.Recently,the_People's_Bank_of_China_conducted_a_quarterly_survey_on_prices_in_50_cities.Nearly half of the respondents said they couldn't tolerate the increasing prices, while some others considered it OK although they acknowledged the truth. As a result, many families began to seek various ways to save money.

The survey does draw my attention to the rapidly increasing prices in my daily life.Take food as an example, the prices of pork, beef, fish, chicken,as well as various vegetables, have risen at least 20%.It seems that money is flowing out of our pockets more quickly, but silently.

Although we middle school students feel less stress than our parents do,we should also have a proper budget for our pocket money. For example,we can make the most of each exercise book and reuse some waste paper.Or we can also try to cut down our expenses on unnecessary magazines,CDs and so on.In a word,we can save money in many aspects in our daily life.

All in all, saving money is a great Chinese virtue and it is especially needed in this period.Thank you!
